I’m managing a team of 10 (sometimes more, sometimes less) awesome people.
I am manager since march 2011, so I have a lot of things to learn yet.
I honestly think I’m good in certain stuff, and I totally suck for other, especially when my skills are mixed up with my impulses.
One thing I learnt for sure, and I wanna share it: no matter if you are a senior and you’re talking to an intern or you are a VP and you’re talking with a junior. No matter how the company structure currently is.
When it comes to feedback, the talk has to be a two-way communication. I want my people to give me feedbacks and advices on how I can be better. Better not only as a manager, but as a person. To me, we are one and only one team, where I have to take care of people, defend them, fail with them, be happy with them for success.
Don’t be afraid of giving feedback and advices to your manager. If it’s already doing a good job, he will listen and will learn from this. If it’s not allowing you to give feedback about him, or he/she does not care, it’s already a bad manager (and probably she knows it too).
When it comes to feedback, there are only two human beings. Fuck the titles.
