The certainty of the unknown

lifeistooshort

So the day in which I will leave the old continent for New Zealand is come.

On october 17th I will leave from Venice, stopping in Dubai (for one night), and then one way to Auckland (with a small stop in Melbourne). I’ll arrive in Auckland on october 19th.

And then?

That’s the scary part. I don’t have a job – yet – but I’m happy to announce I have a room for one month, in Grey Lynn area.

Tell a story while I’m still here

I’m stuck in Italy for few more weeks before going to New Zealand for my new adventure.

I use Feedly a lot to read a lot of amazing things, to watch incredible videos and to learn how beautiful the world is.

The thing that amazes me the most is realize the importance of telling a story. I have an entire section on my feedly called “inspiration” because I love to be inspired to do better next time I’m into a project (helping a site to give a better experience or choose how to place the new library in my home or how to explain better a concept to friends).

Many people are afraid to be inspired. I love it instead. Because inspiration is helping me to understand how I want to change this world to be a better place, how to have a more worldwide vision on things.

But most of all, inspiration is happening when someone is telling me a story. A video, a letter, a poem, a book, a talk.

The same story many companies and online realities struggle to show, to tell.

Telling a true story is the key to connect with people.

Tell a story while I’m still here.

Marketing for the masses

havelessdomore

In a room crunching numbers. Not even real ones, but just projections.

Why not spending time to make those numbers happen?

Talking about numbers saying: “in theory” or “I believe”…, you don’t know what will happen.

But here’s a thing: work with your team, closely, to make those numbers happen. Most numbers depends on motivation of the teams, on what you’re telling with your brand to the outside world. You can do whatever meeting you want, but those numbers are not coming up because you wrote them in an excel file.

Do you want me to say “yeah, we’re gonna reach them?”. Sure I can. No problem. But I would prefer to discuss what we can do to do better with our brand and our team, which kind of story we can tell, the truth behind the brand, rather than just “it’s gonna happen because we put billions on marketing”.

New client in a pizzeria

drunk

Today I went to a pizzeria for the very first time.

It’s not me. They just opened.

I ordered three pizzas to take away. I gave my name to them. Actually I gave another name, because I decided to always give a different name every time I order something in some place.

I waited 25 minutes.

In those 25 minutes, the magic should happen. Come and tell me the story about why you opened that place. Bring me something to drink while I’m waiting. Bring me something to read and to see. Bring me the list of your next events. Bring me the menu so I can discover awesome thing you do. Tell me to write a review about your pizza on facebook or somewhere.

In those 25 minutes, ENGAGE WITH ME.

Nope, 25 minutes. I’m there. A new customer.

25 minutes. The pizzas arrived and nothing happened. NOTHING.

Screw the nothing, I wanna see the reason why I should come back next time I want a pizza.

You missed opportunities. Be active. Do something.
