Meet your SEO: Jonathon Colman

First of all, have a great start of the week everyone!

Second: today is “Meet your SEO” day, right?

Today I have the pleasure to talk a bit with Jonathon Colman, an “ex-SEO”. Why? Because after 11 years in the SEO, Jonathon has decided to leave it for entering a new role in information strategy at REI. I really like Jonathon, I engaged with him on twitter and he was always nice to talk to me and give me advice about SEO. But I have to say that when I read the post of him leaving SEO, I was completely amazed because I think that his journey is something really interesting to follow.

I’m making a lot of thoughts about SEO as discipline, and I’m forming my own idea after 1 year and half in the SEO world, and I’m convinced that I have to keep my mind opened not only in the SEO field , but to a lot of other interesting things, because I like the idea to optimize for the user first, and not for the search engine. So, follow Jonathon on twitter and on his site, because I know we’re going to see amazing things.

This interview was made before Jonathon left SEO, but I decided to publish it anyway because he is and he will always be an SEO.

Let’s make this journey then!

Meet your SEO: Michael J. Kovis

Michael is a great guy. I mean, I don’t even remember how I started to follow him on twitter, but I know he has a sense of humor I really appreciate. Michael is even a great SEO, and he is always willing to help me with SEO tricks and stuff.

How I ended up to interview him? When I asked if he was willing to participate, this was his first email:

Alessio,

I am sorry, but I have to decline this offer. I don’t do interviews… Especially interviews about SEO.

Lol, JUST KIDDING!

I would be honored to do this for you. I appreciate the opportunity for this interview.

What date would you like to have my answers by? I know you mentioned I have plenty of time, but I would like to put in on my calendar as a reminder.

So I answered him back:

I changed my mind actually, I don’t have space for other interviews no more.

Lol, JUST KIDDING!

The rest is history! 😀

so, guys, here is Michael J. KovisMichael is the founder and CEO of TK421 Digital. He also does some good rants over twitter, and for me it’s always a plus 🙂 You can see Michael in the picture below. You have to guess who Michael is in this photo. Tip: he is not the one in the middle.

so ready for another episode of the “Meet your SEO” series? Let’s go.

Meet your SEO: Bill Sebald

Here in Berlin is raining. I mean, apparently there is no summer. It’s not that I care too much since I’m a winter guy. But it’s good to me to inform you about this kind of stuff.

It seems people like to talk a lot about flushing twitter followers in these days. I like to do it too, but just because people I follow sometimes get boring, always talking about ONE and ONE topic only, when there are times in my life (almost always) I need to think about other things, like art, books, music, education. I think it’s like the “inbox zero” topic: you don’t have to do it and to tweet about it just because you want to receive attention (I receive email too, even if I don’t write “inbox zero” every other second). You have to do it because you don’t want to follow people who are not interesting for you, not just because you like the idea to have a low number of people you follow. And a tip: there are A LOT of interesting people out there, even if they are not SEO’s.

Ok, back to our lovely “Meet your SEO” interview series. Today I have the pleasure to chat with Bill Sebald. Bill is an SEO consultant, web designer, and a rockstar. I mean, he has a lot of skills and I enjoy really much to follow him on twitter. He is always engaging, ready to discuss, to answer you back and to tweet about interesting things. You can read more about his thoughts on his blog, GreenLane SEO.

Allright, Bill, let’s rock!

Every SEO should read this

There are websites like Explore or Brain Pickings that are helping me to discover awesome quotes, awesome stuff in general. Today I read this, and I think every SEO, including me, should read it.

The person who wins the Nobel Prize is not the person who read the most journal articles and took the most notes on them. It’s the person who knew what to look for. And cultivating that capacity to seek what’s significant, always willing to question whether you’re on the right track — that’s what education is going to be about.

Noam Chomsky on the purpose of education

It made me think. I hope you too.
