Google doesn’t like scarves, not all at least

I’m working at Zalando, a big fashion e-commerce. To be honest I’m not so much into the fashion stuff, but I have to deal with it since I have a job that I like a lot.

To me a scarf is a piece of textile covering your neck when it’s cold. Period. Like this:

Pashmina: strange name to define a scarf.I cannot wear wool scarves, otherwise a terrible irritation all over my neck is going to happen. So I like what people call pashmina, like a scarf but not made of wool (this is the meaning for me).

I didn’t know there are people out there who are spending a lot of euros (really a lot) for a scarf, but in our store we have few of them. Like them or not, I know they value a lot because they are hand-made by big fashion brands.

Since I’m working for the italian market, I always want to find information about our brands and their products in Google.it , in order to understand better what it is interesting about that brand and what people want when they search for it.

November 2011 Marketing Award

I just want to share this with you guys, because I am really happy about that.

Working as SEO for Zalando Italia is a great honor for me. I am trying to do my best, learning a lot, both via web and through awesome guys in the international team.

When I started in March 2011, I was completely out of the SEO world, and the guys at Zalando helped me a lot to understand how to do SEO for a big e-commerce online.

After 8 months, one of the founder of Zalando and head of marketing gave me an award during our marketing meeting we have every 5-6 months. I did not know about it, so my colleagues in the italian team. It was a great surprise, especially because sometimes in a big company with a huge marketing department, you have the feeling SEOs are not considered a lot. Sometimes you need someone who gives a sort of feedback about you and your work, someone who’s not an SEO.

When I met the Distilled guys in New York

The very first post I want to make in my blog is something personal that I would like to share with you.

When I started my SEO career, I was practically put in front of a PC and I was told to “start optimizing the site”. ok, what does this mean? I had this huge ecommerce site, with no notions at all if not a beginner’s guide by SEOmoz guys. That was my first reading about SEO to understand better what I have to do.

Luckily, I am using Twitter a lot, and so I decided to search for amazing SEO guys, to follow, read and learn what they were sharing. Twitter is a fantastic tool to connect with people in an active way, and with all my ignorance on this matter, I started to reply to someone asking for something I didn’t know yet and day after day I was learning a lot of things, that even a book can’t teach.
