Italian genius beating Google

psychiatrist

Last night I was in front of my mac, losing time on stupid things over the web.

At a certain point my girlfriend Giulia said to me: “look at this!” . What? I’m gonna tell you.

Italians are geniuses. I know that, but I even know how Italians are not so much into geek stuff.  But after this, I have to think again.

We all know Google. And we all know that in Italy the domain is google.it. Well, you know, sometimes when you are in hurry you can misspell things, writing the wrong URL, for example.

If you search for www.googlw.it , the magic happens. I mean, that URL is redirected to www.bancali.it , a awful site about selling pallets and related stuff. The site is really awful, and is owned by an italian person.

bancali

The site is really ugly. I don’t know, it’s so ugly that I’m thinking to put it as my startpage. I always had this kind of thing: when something or someone is irritating to watch or to hear, I tend to watch it or hear it more and more (I have already an appointment with a psychiatrist, so don’t worry…I’m fine).

The same trick happens when you search www.googlr.it : it’s always redirected to www.bancali.it. You, north italian guy…. you are a genius. I mean, you have to be ashamed for presenting that site, but still, I owe you a beer.

When looking for www.googls.it another site comes up, but this time with no redirect.

Sito in manutenzione

And finally, when searching for www.googlf.it , there is a redirect to www.speakersonline.it .

Now, I didn’t try every letter, just the one near the ‘e’ (I have better things to do, really?), and it’s a shame that they didn’t take advantage of those domains to create something awesome for the user. Ok, pallets are not awesome – never – but still there are people looking for those, but even if they arrive to that site, it’s really awful, and they are gonna leave.

So, an advice: build some cool site for those URL , redirected or not, because I can imagine you having a lot of traffic.

And I’m thinking: Google, was it so difficult to think of buying those URLs and redirect them to google.it  (like they did for example with googlr.com) ?
