Meet your marketer: Doug Kessler

Yeah, I know. I put an end on the Meet your Marketer and Meet your SEO series. But as you should know by now, I like to change idea often, and so here I am with a new Meet your Marketer interview.

I was approached by BBC and SkyNews because they wanted a hint about this brand new episode, but I declined their interview because I want you guys know first who is the protagonist, the main actor today.

Today I have the immense pleasure to have a quick chat with Doug Kessler, co-founder and creative director of Velocity Partners, a B2B content marketing agency based in London, UK.

I was lucky to meet Stan when I was in London for Confab, and we had a beer in a typical English pub, sharing ideas and our thoughts on marketing. Stan invited me to meet all the Velocity family, and in that occasion I met Doug as well, and I had a nice lunch with him talking about a lot of interesting content marketing and content strategy stuff.

OK, enough about me. Let’s have this chat with Doug!

Things are broken

http://macandmae.com/

I went to The Warehouse here in Auckland to buy some stuff for my new home. After I paid a conspicuous amount of money, the guy at the cash register said I could not take the basket with all my stuff out, while I was allowed to take my cart out. Someone can explain me why? #broken

I went to a library using a PC for printing some stuff out. I was allowed (after I booked it) to use the PC for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, I didn’t finish to do what I had to do, so I went to the library guy asking to add some more minutes to my account. He said it was NOT possible. The standard procedure was I needed to disconnect myself, go to him, book some minutes again, wait for my turn and then use the PC. Someone can explain me why? #broken

I went to a bar, asking for three cappuccinos and some croissants to TAKE AWAY. I received all the stuff after 20 minutes. I didn’t want to hang around the bar, I went directly to the take away spot, and there were at least 6 people working in that exact moment (with no order at all). 6 people and still 20 minutes for a coffee? If you are not able to organize your work, you shouldn’t allow the customer to pay for it. Someone can explain me why the customer is always at the bottom? #broken

“If you spend 6$ I’ll give you a stamp”. Thing is I spent 5.80$ and you refuse to give it to me. Are you really willing to waste a good relationship for 20-fuckin-cents? Why not just saying: “I shouldn’t, but who cares….I value you coming in my shop every day”. #broken

Random thoughts on New Zealand

takapuna

  1. People smile. A lot.
  2. People are telling me “Welcome in New Zealand” every time they discover I just arrived.
  3. I was scared to drive a car since everything is the opposite here. And my brain is not that advanced.
  4. I work near the beach. And every time I look at the sea, it amazes me in a way I couldn’t believe it.
  5. My digital agency is small, but for the first time I feel I can do more rock and roll shit. So, small places are definitely a go. Plus, we talk a lot and NOT via skype.  Continue reading

First post from New Zealand! First post from Auckland!

I wanna share with all of you some great news.

I arrived in Auckland on october 19th, and I had the opportunity to make some job interviews right away. My jet lag was not that bad, so I was able to manage them quite good (I think). I slept 12 hours straight the first night, and then my time zone was already set on NZDT.

After 4 days of my arrival, I received a very good offer that I decided to take right away, without thinking too much.
