My first SEO birthday

SEO hat

Exactly one year ago I started my SEO career.

It’s been one of those year I’m gonna remember for all my life. I was a molecular biologist first, and then I had this amazing opportunity to enter the magic world of SEO.

Just few things I learnt, and I wanna share with you:

Use twitter to engage with other SEOs around the globe;

Don’t be afraid: you are learning SEO, so if you say some stupid things is ok. If they defollow you or laugh at you, no problem…bad people are everywhere.

Read some cool blogs and site BUT then start doing something. You can have all the theory you want, but the SEO is made of practice.

Thing to dismiss: the wallet

A simple post just to say that I’m looking forward to the time when we will NOT use the wallet anymore.

How is it possible that in some place people are saying: “we don’t accept cards”. WHAT? WHY? what’s your problem?

You have this wallet full of things, coins and money, cards, business cards, papers and photos about you 10 years ago.

It’s heavy, usually, and when the summer arrives, it could be a problem: you have to bring it with you everywhere, when the first thing you wanna do when the sun is shining is to be free and light.

Be-Wizard 2012: a recap

Be Wizard 2012

I have the chance to participate to a web marketing conference called Be-Wizard in Rimini (Italy) on 16 – 17 March 2012.

This was for me the first international conference during my SEO career. The conference was divided in two days. The first day was a general web marketing conference. To be honest nothing special. General topics, and speakers who sometimes were extremely boring and not good communicators.

The second day was divided in three sections: tourism, business and advanced. I choose to go to the advanced section because there were speakers I follow on twitter and I was really curious to see them live. The advanced section was really good, even if I have to say I saw that some presentations hav not that magic feeling and spirit that I like a lot when I listen to someone. Anyway.

The free wifi allows me to get in touch in real time via twitter with a lot of people during the two days. The highlights of the two days conference were to meet people, and it was totally great to receive a mention on twitter saying “hey Alessio, coffee later?”. You know, strange feeling…from virtual to real talk.  That’s it. And here are 4 people I had the pleasure to meet and talk.

Now that’s what SEOs call music

vinyl on my plate!

I listen to a lot of music. Always. I started to talk to other SEOs about music they listen to, till I realize I wanted to know more about what music SEOs listen to when working. This was a huge project for me, because I had to get in touch with a lot of SEOs, and I didn’t know the response to this (since I am pretty unknown in 2012 :D). I am happy to say that more than 50 SEOs answered me back. The project started in this way: choose 2 songs or 2 bands you listen to, one for onpage stuff and one for offpage. Some SEOs were able to choose only 2 (I know it’s really hard), others wrote me their taste in music in general, refusing to choose only 2 songs. I decided to keep all the answers, no matter what was the original project, because it was a huge chance to me to discover a lot of music…and so, it’s a huge opportunity even for you! So, let’s start. This is a huge post, kinda epic I have to say (it’s really long, so take your time), and I want to THANK all the awesome people out there that were kind enough to share with me their music and who helped me to realize this. Ready to rock?
